Q: Is this ethical in Canada?
A: Philanthropic Alliance Group has conducted extensive research and this program is within ethical guidelines based on the Donor Bill of Rights, AFP and CAGP Ethical Guidelines and the Provincial Law Societies. A disclaimer stating that there is no obligation to make a bequest commitment to a charity will be used in all program material.
Q: How are charities selected to participate in the program?
A: Through consultation with Philanthropic Alliance Group. Different types of charities will participate in each program to ensure non-competition between like-charities.
Q: My planned giving time is already stretched: how will I manage another campaign?
A: Philanthropic Alliance Group will do all the coordination and development work to execute this program, but charities will have full approval over all elements of the Free Wills Program.
Q: What about the privacy of individuals who choose to participate?
A: The will remains private between the lawyer and the individual. Participants will be asked to complete a form notifying the charity of their decision to leave a bequest. This form is obligatory, however giving consent to be contacted by the charity is at the discretion of the participant.
Q: What happens when an individual wants more than a basic will?
A: The individual would have to pay the difference after consultation with lawyer for additional work. This program will only cover the cost of a basic will drawn.
Q: Who might choose to participate in this program?
A: The program is open to the general public. Individuals between the ages of 55 and over are eligible to participate. |
